A sweet good-natured book about the coldest season on Earth。 A great introduction for individuals curious about what winter entails, or what might happen during the season。

“Winter is here。 It’s everywhere。” Really cute artwork。 And the writing seemed alright at the beginning。 But there is something off about it。 I was almost interested, almost interested, almost interested。。。 until I gave up and then was just bored。 Such a shame because the artwork really is charming。

Angie

A beautiful book about the signs of winter - how the snow moves, leaves trapped in ice, staying warm inside。 But also talks about how snow recedes and ends with the promise of spring。

Carolyn

Love the author。 Beautiful illustrations。

Henkes / Dronzek collaborate to create a beautiful picture book showing how winter can change the landscape and the way people and animals adapt to it。 We see winter's beauty as well as it's harshness, but eventually we see it's shrinking away。 The front endpapers display falling snow while the endpapers at the back have flowers and butterflies previewing their springtime seasonal book。 A must-read book for any preschool units on winter。 Henkes / Dronzek collaborate to create a beautiful picture book showing how winter can change the landscape and the way people and animals adapt to it。 We see winter's beauty as well as it's harshness, but eventually we see it's shrinking away。 The front endpapers display falling snow while the endpapers at the back have flowers and butterflies previewing their springtime seasonal book。 A must-read book for any preschool units on winter。 。。。more

This book is a great book for the winter season for children。 Fall and winter are my favorite seasons so I especially love this book。 Children often associate winter with Christmas only so this book is a great book for getting children to understand the concepts and beauty of the winter season。 Children will view the amazing illustrations in this book and get to view the aspects in real life and relate。

I’m reading this series out of order (I guess)。 I read the spring one first。 I liked this winter one way better。 It really captured the feeling of winter。 It was still just a little too long but overall a great ode to winter。

Eliza

Great book about winter and snow。 Ends with spring arriving。 Good for ST in Feb/Mar

I liked the sweet art and the lyrical language conjuring up all the sensory details and kid-friendly aspects of a snowy winter。 Not a ton of substance, but very re-readable。 Delight for fans of Kevin Henkes as it is smack in his style。

This is a beautifully poetic and quiet book。 We love this seasonal series!

Winter Is Here is the third book in Kevin Henkes’ season series。 As expected Henkes’ richly descriptive language and Dronzek’s adorable illustrations pair up to make a lively read aloud for preschool and early elementary children。 Henkes draws attention to many of winters elements that include contrast-the silence of snowfall vs the loud noise of plows, the softness of snow and the hardness of ice, the dark and light of the days。 I also liked the bits that describe winter’s waning and returning Winter Is Here is the third book in Kevin Henkes’ season series。 As expected Henkes’ richly descriptive language and Dronzek’s adorable illustrations pair up to make a lively read aloud for preschool and early elementary children。 Henkes draws attention to many of winters elements that include contrast-the silence of snowfall vs the loud noise of plows, the softness of snow and the hardness of ice, the dark and light of the days。 I also liked the bits that describe winter’s waning and returning and waning again during the approach to spring。 。。。more

This book is great, I loved that this book was about winter and it didn't talk about Christmas but only the season itself。 He described winter in a great way and I felt that I was in winter while reading。 The pictures were good and filled each page。 I would read this to my students because I feel that they would enjoy this book because it's something that most of them can relate to。 This book is great, I loved that this book was about winter and it didn't talk about Christmas but only the season itself。 He described winter in a great way and I felt that I was in winter while reading。 The pictures were good and filled each page。 I would read this to my students because I feel that they would enjoy this book because it's something that most of them can relate to。 。。。more

A lovely book about all the moods and joys of winter。 There is so much to do in winter。 If only we would get just a day or two of it here。 There have been 3 days the temp stayed below 32 degrees here, now at night it does more。 We had a day of flakes, that’s it。 There has been no winter。 So, this book brought the winter to me。 There is nice artwork and cozy scenes with a dog。 It’s a beginning story about winter。 It’s not much of a story, just what we feel in winter。 I love the ice pond where you A lovely book about all the moods and joys of winter。 There is so much to do in winter。 If only we would get just a day or two of it here。 There have been 3 days the temp stayed below 32 degrees here, now at night it does more。 We had a day of flakes, that’s it。 There has been no winter。 So, this book brought the winter to me。 There is nice artwork and cozy scenes with a dog。 It’s a beginning story about winter。 It’s not much of a story, just what we feel in winter。 I love the ice pond where you can see the leaves beneath the surface。 That captures winter。 The nephew loves an action or funny plot, so you can imagine that something like this, just images of winter, did not do it for him。 He wants to build a snowman, yes, but they didn’t even do that here。 He gave this 1 star and he wanted another story。 They have also started Harry Potter 4, so he is being spoiled with that great story。 。。。more

I feel like something about Kevin Henkes makes me think his books are going to be kind of hokey, but I actually really liked this one。 I thought it did a great job of evoking the mood of winter, how it comes and goes and drips and sits and freezes and at the end is SPRING! I'd definitely recommend for any wintry reading list as it reminds you of the lovely parts of the season。 My 2。5 year old enjoyed it and requested multiple readings, though I'm not sure she's the most discerning reader :) I feel like something about Kevin Henkes makes me think his books are going to be kind of hokey, but I actually really liked this one。 I thought it did a great job of evoking the mood of winter, how it comes and goes and drips and sits and freezes and at the end is SPRING! We read this book a lot in our household。 It’s a bit wordy for a board book so it’s always a risk of losing interest but we love it all the same。

Great for short story times, and appropriate for younger students。 May also work well for kindergarten, but doesn't allow for students to answer questions about stories (What happened in the beginning, middle, end, characters, etc)。 Students stayed engaged throughout due to the illustrations。 Great for short story times, and appropriate for younger students。 May also work well for kindergarten, but doesn't allow for students to answer questions about stories (What happened in the beginning, middle, end, characters, etc)。 Students stayed engaged throughout due to the illustrations。 。。。more

This is another great book by this author, with a perfect story for preschoolers about the season of winter。 The book is large, making it great to share with a group。 Simple yet informative text printed a good size bold font。The words fit splendidly with the soft realistic illustrations。 I love the use of the dog, cat, and birds as part of the pictures。Nice endpapers。
